Gifting items to the Museum

Information on Gifting items to the Museum

The Museum is always pleased to be offered gifts for its collection or the collections of the represented regiments – see “Regimental Histories” drop down menu. If you have anything you think maybe of interest to the Museum or the regiments please contact the Museum Officer, Caroline Chamberlain by email, or call 01244 327 617. Items for gifting might be military or personal artefacts or archival material whether official documents or personal records and photographs.

If accepted artefacts gifted will be held at the Museum and displayed when appropriate. They may be loaned to other organisations for display if suitable.

However, in the case of archives not all are kept at the Museum. The Museum houses and manages the archives of the Cheshire Regiment (including the Mercian Regiment) and those of the Eaton Hall Officer Cadet School (1946 – 1959).

Archives for the Cheshire Yeomanry are now held on indefinite loan by Cheshire Archives and Local Studies (CALS). Such material can be handed in at the Museum and for passing on to CALS. A temporary receipt will be given by the Museum and a confirmatory receipt will be issued by CALS when the material is passed to them. Alternatively you may wish to take or send material direct to CALS at Duke Street, Chester, Cheshire, CH1 1RL (01244 972 574). In the case of ‘C’ (Cheshire Yeomanry) Squadron, the Cheshire Yeomanry Regiment’s successor unit, material will also be taken in by the Museum for passing on.

For archives relating to The 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (incorporating the Carabiniers) please contact them through their websites.
