THE WAR HORSE

The story of the horse in war

From the Egyptians in 1250BC through the Assyrian Cavalry in 700BC, the ancient Britons, the Romans and Mediaeval Knights to the Great War and the last British cavalry charge in Syria 1941 this is the story of the horse in war.

The exhibition includes a short history of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, the 5th Dragoon Guards and the Cheshire Yeomanry.

Images and text explain frequently used terms and jargon.

Finally captioned photographs show how other animals such as mules, camels and elephants were used as beasts of burden in war.

The horse continues to be of service to many armies the world over.

A video brings alive the story of the horse.

This new exhibition was officially opened by the Duke of Westminster an officer of the Cheshire Yeomanry in March 2010.
